This site is a tribute to Ray Hiron, much loved always remembered. In these difficult times the funeral was a quiet affair restricted to immediate family, we know that many relations, friends, former acquaintances and even football fans may have wished to attend under normal circumstances. We are all grateful for the many messages of love and support and hope to catch up with you at some time in the future once the current crisis has passed.
In the meantime if you'd like to add your own personal memories of Ray we'd love to read them and any donations to the fight against another awful disease in Alzheimer's would be much appreciated.
Maureen, Steve and Tony
Generally acknowledged to be one of the most respected men in Portsmouth, and a great dad to a friend
In memory of a lovely man who we worked with at Mount batten coaching basketball. Thoughts and best wishes to Maureen, Steve (who I went to school with) and Tony xx
Was sorry to hear of the news of Mr Hiron's passing (he was my first football coach and Dad of a friend, would not feel right calling him anything else). He coached me at Highlands Colts in the early 80's, the first time I had ever thought of playing football. He told me once to practice kicking with my left foot against the wall of my home and as he knew where I lived would make sure I did this by driving past now and again. Obviously I believed him and practiced as instructed, like to say I developed into a 2 footed player but not all of us can be saved! The fact that my Dad was Pomper through and through and had been since his youth in the late 40's/early 50's meant that me playing for a team coached by a PFC legend was a bonus. RIP Coach and thanks for the great memories with Highlands Colts. Thoughts to Mrs Hiron, Steve, Tony and their families.
